The federal government and the state of Ohio offer special benefits for veterans. Every county has a Veterans Service Office (VSO) that can help you understand and apply for:
Federal and state benefits
- Disability compensation: You may be eligible for monthly payments if you have a disability that was caused by your active military service or that got worse due to your military service. Contact your county VSO to learn more or get help applying.
- Pension: If you are a veteran with a low income and you are permanently and totally disabled or age 65 or older, you may be eligible for support.
- Healthcare: Learn about resources for finding care and insurance.
- Education: You may be able to get college credit, in-state tuition, a scholarship or other education help for your military service.
- Home loans: You may qualify for programs to help you buy or repair a home.
- Burial and survivor benefits: Burial in a national cemetery is available to veterans of active federal military service, their spouses and their dependent minor children.
- Mental health: Find resources for finding a counselor or dealing with post-traumatic stress or addiction. You can also contact your county VSO to learn about financial assistance for veterans.
- Employment: Ohio Means Jobs has programs and resources to help with your job search, such as finding military-friendly employers and applying your military skills to civilian jobs.
